Even Amsterdam Cracks Down

Who would have thought that some  of the most popular marijuana-selling coffee shops have to close, and just a few weeks ago. Why? Some people might ask, well it's quite simple it is because they were just to close to schools. The article talks about how there are 228 coffee shops and by 2011 43 of the shops must close because they are within 250 meters of a school. Along with closing shops some of the mayors are talking about being more strict on the selling of the drugs. My friend, Rebecca,  has actually been to Amsterdam with her family. She is one of my friends who is not totally against smoking but if she were to be asked if she would ever do it she would say no. She said that people were pretty much furious when they heard that this was going to happen. A lot of the store owners could not believe this was going to happen, they were worried about what was going to happen to them and to their families. Some of the owners told my friend that it was all they had to support themselves and their families. While others were okay with it because they would just go to a new location and open another one. The other problem with just going and opening up one was that there might be a schooling opening sometime in the near future and the owners not be aware of it. It could take a couple of years for them to figure it out, but as the years go on the schools get bigger and the coffee-shops are starting to get smaller.
